What Happens During a Microneedling Session?

Microneedling New Jersey
Microneedling New Jersey

Microneedling New Jersey is a fast and effective treatment that renews skin with little downtime. You might even say it helps turn back the hands of time by igniting the body’s natural healing processes. And at Dr. Park Avenue in Franklin Lakes and Brick, NJ, we use the latest and most innovative tools available to ensure your skin looks nothing short of beautiful.

What Happens During a Microneedling Session?

You can expect your session to last around 30 minutes from start to finish. While microneedling (MN) is a highly customizable experience, each treatment typically starts the same: we first clean and numb the area to be treated. An additional step may also be included, such as the application of a serum or collagen-stimulating product to increase the treatment’s efficacy.

Treatment begins after the necessary preparations are completed. We use a unique, highly advanced, and medical-grade system known as the Bellus Medical SkinPen. This is the only Microneedling New Jersey device approved by the FDA, and it’s proven to help improve damaged and aging skin by harnessing the body’s natural healing abilities (more on this in a moment).

All You Need to Know About the SkinPen

As you envision an MN treatment, you might imagine a derma roller being used on your skin. This tool uses a natural rolling action to create puncture wounds, and because it has a wide surface area of application, it’s not always suitable for treatment around the lips, eyes, and nose.

The SkinPen, on the other hand, allows pinpoint precision over the exact treatment area. Settings can be configured to easily allow for a more customized experienced, meaning our staff can consider factors like pain tolerance, expected results, and other dynamic factors when developing your treatment plan. And the vertical alignment of the SkinPen’s needles, combined with a lightweight and ergonomic design, allows us to treat hard-to-reach areas.

Less Recovery Needed

Because derma rollers move horizontally, they induce lateral punctures that can tear the skin. In fact, each pass of the roller’s wide surface area can increase the amount of tearing and trauma endured by the skin. This often leads to bleeding, swelling, bruising, and tenderness that demand a longer recovery period.

But the SkinPen enters skin at a 90-degree angle without causing tears. Its smooth action also means the skin endures far less trauma, leading to a shorter and much easier recovery time for you. The post-procedure protocol we do recommend can be easily incorporated into your daily routine.

Controlled Penetration

Holding a derma roller can be unwieldy thanks to the size of its surface area and the number of needles. This affords little control for the user, especially as the tool only moves one way.

The design of the SkinPen is more efficient, allowing us to adjust the angle and the area affected for targeted treatment. We can even adjust penetration levels, from shallow to intense, to address different areas of concern. In the end, you see the most beneficial results possible.

A Few More Details

The SkinPen is safe to use on all skin tones and types. It’s a great option to whisk away the appearance of acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles while restoring a smooth and balanced skin tone. You can repeat treatments to maintain your healthy appearance and, perhaps best of all, the SkinPen is proven to build Type1 collagen for six full months.

Collagen: The Hero of Gorgeous Skin

As you likely already know, collagen is the building block of firm, vibrant skin. This explains why so many over-the-counter skincare products now boast the inclusion of this ingredient. Others claim to improve the body’s natural collagen production, but the sad truth is it takes far more than your favorite moisturizer or serum to improve collagen levels.

The best solutions are those that focus on rejuvenating skin in the subdermal levels, where concerns like sagging and wrinkles start. As a minimally invasive treatment, MN creates microscopic injuries on the skin’s surface. Anytime your skin is wounded, even if it’s a small cut, your body ignites a healing process that starts with blood clots. This encourages skin regrowth at the site of the injury.

Crucial Nutrients for Your Skin

That healing process gets an added boost from collagen, one of three crucial components to gorgeous skin. The other two are elastin and hyaluronic acid (HA). Together, these three elements form the extra-cellular matrix (ECM) that supports the skin’s structure and shape. In high supply, collagen also gives skin its smooth, rounded contours, high curves, and radiant complexion.

That is why MN is so important to your skin’s overall health. The minute injuries it causes put the body’s natural healing processes to work. This means you’ll experience an influx of skin-loving, youth-boosting collagen. As collagen levels increase, so too do those of elastin and HA. You therefore receive the trifecta of skincare in one easy-to-administer treatment.

Benefits of MN

What else does MN do besides stimulate collagen production? First and foremost, it helps patients look younger. Elastin gives your skin its natural bounce, while HA delivers much-needed hydration. The result is a softer and more supple face with a youthful, rosy glow. In the process, you’ll also have fewer fine lines, fewer wrinkles, and tighter skin. With MN, you can finally say goodbye to dull and tired tissues and hello to a brighter, fresher complexion.

Acne Scars

MN also erases acne scars that are notoriously resistant to most treatments. These scars form when fibrotic tissues knit wounds together. Unfortunately, fibrosis is the culprit behind pockmarks, deep ice pick scars, and other concerns that make the skin look and feel rough.

MN goes straight to the source of scars, beneath the skin’s surface layer, to heal and renew your appearance. Even better, the healing process is ignited in a controlled way to deliver a softer and smoother appearance.

Age Spots and Hyperpigmentation

Common problems like age spots, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone can leave skin looking blotchy and prematurely aged. Sun exposure is the most common culprit, although the natural aging process, hormonal fluctuations, and inflammation are also to blame. MN can help by – here’s that phrase again – ramping up collagen synthesis. You might think of it as a fresh start for your skin’s health.

Acne and Rosacea

People often associate acne with teenagers, but this skin affliction can actually strike at any time. It’s known to plague women and men of all ages and is highly difficult to treat. Likewise, rosacea looks similar to acne but is in fact a different condition altogether. It can affect patients in midlife and beyond, causing widespread inflammation across the face. MN is a terrific option to eradicate both conditions.

Although MN is usually not advised when patients have active breakouts or rosacea, it can be a wonderful complement once your condition is controlled with prescriptions or other cosmetic treatments. For instance, MN tackles large pores by wrapping them tightly in collagen. Treatment can also help to control redness and revive your complexion with a luminescent glow.

The MN Details You Need

A huge benefit we haven’t yet discussed is this: Microneedling New Jersey delivers fairly immediate results. In the short term, you’ll enjoy plumper and pinker skin that looks more radiant. These effects last several weeks.

But the true benefits of MN come from the skin healing itself. This means promised improvements over time as collagen and elastin production get supercharged. In fact, studies show that skin treated with four MN sessions – each delivered four weeks apart – can produce up to 400% more collagen and elastin than skin that’s not treated. This can give way to a completely revived appearance.

The Effects Can Be Amplified

MN can be further amplified by using certain serums. To illustrate, those that contain HA can quench parched tissues, while Niacinamide can reduce oil production. Speak to a member of our staff about the serums that are right for your skincare needs and the appropriate time to apply them after treatment.

Treated Skin Needs Extra Attention

Your skin will need a break after MN to repair and recover. For the rest of the day following treatment, you should avoid washing your face. Also try to keep your skin cool by staying away from hot yoga, saunas, and the gym. And absolutely no sun. If you are going to be outside in the days and/or weeks after treatment, slather on sunscreen and wear a wide-brimmed hat.

Are You Ready for New Skin?

If you’re ready for a complexion revival, Microneedling New Jersey may be just the treatment for you. It can erase scars, fine lines, wrinkles, spots, and dull skin to reveal younger, healthier cells. Schedule your consultation today by contacting Dr. Park Avenue in Franklin Lakes and Brick, NJ.
